Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs)
Morocco
Started by Kingfisher Foods and its partners in 2014, this FIP led to improvements in transparency, data collection, and management strategy. The FIP helped Moroccan fishermen to get a fair price for their catch and ensure that sardine stocks are healthy far into the future. Kingfisher Foods continues to drive progress, with the FIP working towards the In-Transition to MSC (ITM) program.
Peru
Started by Kingfisher Foods in September 2016, the FIP was formed to eliminate the demand for illegally caught fish by introducing measures to further incentivise legal fishing and enforce harvest controls. The FIP continues to drive improvements through its stakeholders, including government, fishermen’s association and industry, and has achieved a milestone regulation on catch quotas for the artisanal fleet and observers’ onboard vessels collecting data.
